THE BOXING BING
SIKI-CARPENTIER CONTEST. A “FRAME-UP” ALLEGED. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright PARIS, December ■ 5. (Received Dec. 6, at 9.25 p.m.) M. Daigne, in protesting to the deputies against the disqualification of Siki, alleged that it was arranged prior to the match against Carpentier that Siki should go down in the fourth round. Siki consented, because he was told he would get plenty of money for little training. In the second round, hearing the crowd cheer Carpentier, Siki suddenly realised he was the better man, and decided to go in and win, despite his manager’s warning in regard to his arrangement. The Boxing Federation threatens to prosecute M. Daigne unless he can substantiate hia
accusation. —A. and N.Z. Cable. CARPENTIER INTERVIEWED “FRAME-UP” STATEMENT ABSURD. PARIS, December 6. (Received Dec. 6, at 9.25 p.m.) Carpentier, interviewed, said: “Siki must have been drunk when he made the allegations. I was out to beat him. The idea of any kind of ‘frame-up’ is ridiculous.” —A. and N.Z. Cable. THE ALLEGATION DISCREDITED. LONDON, December 5. (Received Dec 6, at 9.25 p.m.) Bennison, one of the judges of the Car-pentier-Siki boxing match, writing to the Daily Telegraph, says: ‘‘Siki’s new allegation is on all fours with his conduct since the match. I do not believe that either Carpentier or Descamps would make such prior arrangements. I do know that Carpentier, Knowing that Siki -was only a freakish wild man, did not train seriously. After the first round I felt that if Carpentier had taken himseli seriously he could have won in record time. The difference between the men was so great that everyone tittered, and •with those who shouted ‘fraud’ owing to tlie inequality between the men I agreed. Carpentier has since told me that he felt that if he had done the proper thing and knocked out the nigger immediately there would have been a riot on a large (Received Dec. 6, at 10.20 p.m.) The letter continued: “Carpentier therefore toyed with Siki until he received a clip on the jaw, from which he never recovered. That is the whole story of the fight. As I said before, Siki is an insufferable nigger. He is a second Jack Johnson ia even- particular. There is no place for him in any ring.”—A. and N.Z. Cable. ~
