ORPHANAGE CARNIVAL
Despite the inclemency of the weather there was a very large attendance last night at the Orphanage Carnival. The Otago School of Dancing favoured the audience with a complete change of dance items, and the Lyric .Quartet were heard to advantage in a new programme of song numbers. The Tip-topical Quartet Party created much merriment' with their topical verses am! local allusions, which evidenced a- high degree of talent in the making and a great deal of good humour in the delivery. The carnival will be brought to a. close on Saturday night, when the art? union will he drawn. The committee, asks that all blocks of art union tickets will be handed in as soon as possible, but ce’rtainly .before the drawing takes place. There will be a matinee to-merrow afternoon, when the orphanage children and the pupils of the Sisters of Mercy will give another performance. The following is the position of Die Queen competition:—Miss Blaney (Children of Mary’s Queen). 1; Miss Stewart (Old Boys’ Queen), 2; Miss Indor (St. Vin cent do Paul’s Queen), 5; Miss M‘Donald (Refreshment Queen), 4; Miss Dawson (Cathedral Queen), 5; Miss Spiers (Ladies’ Club Queen), 6. *
