LIBERTY AND THE MODERATE LEAGUE.
TO TBI BDITOB. Sib —Mr James Begg is sorely troubled at the lack of logic on the part of tho Moderate League. As lie sets out to teach that league logic, it would be unfair to him to hint that his letter was carelessly written. But if it was not, what are we to think of his capacity as a teacher? He is evidently incapable of appreciating the difference between restriction and deprivation. Let me give him an illustration. The municipal authorities have power to close any 'thoroughfare temporarily—even permanently, under some when that power is exercised with discretion the ir.convcnience it causes is accepted without a murmur. But if the authorities were to close all the streets, even for a very limited period, what would happen?—l am, etc., Would Like to Know. CHRISTIANITY AND CAPITALISM. TO THE EDITOR. Si.tt,—Tho Kev. S. O. Griffith is reported in the Otago Daily Times as having said that Mr Clark 'stands for stability, responsibility, and equal rights for all, and that ho is going to use hia influence on his behalf Mr Clark stands for the perpetuation of capitalism, and I would like to ask Mr Griffith how a Christian can support capitalism? Christ said: "Ye cannot serve God and Mammon," and the supremacy of profit, not service, in capitalism stampß it as a mammonish organisation with which Christianity can never be content. Tho only justification for a Christian taking part in politics is to assist in establishing tho Kingdom of God on earth, but supporting capitalism, it seems to me ia hindering, not helping, tho coming of that Kingdom.—l am, etc., Service.
