RIFLE SHOOTING
Thn Kaitangata Defence Rifle Club completed the first competition for the Carson Cup under very favourable conditions on Saturday, when the shooting was the beat shown this season, some fine scores being made. The last three scores at the 600 yards range, however, were very poor on account of the sights being out of order. Rifleman J. Smith’s score at 600 yards, was: 555555-1 —34, J. Johnson’s 3555555—33 v and W. D. Patterson’s 33, while Dr Reekie put on 32 at 300 yards The conditions were seven shots with an optional sighter at each range, 300 and 600 yards. BRUCH CLUB. The Bruce Defence Rifle Club on Saturday afternoon tired the second of three competitions for prizes presented by the club's handicappers. The weather conditions were ideal, and some good scores were registered. Rifleman M. Paul put on a creditable score with a total of 66 points, getting one off the possible at 500 yards. Rifleman A. Paul is at present leading in the competition. Conditions: Competition to occupy three Saturdays; two beat scores to count; ranges 300 and 500 yards; seven shots and optional sighter at each range; handicap .limit 65. Scores: - 300 500 yds. yds.
