Mr W. G. Hay was a passenger for Christchurch by the express yesterday. Mr James Craigie arrived in the city by the express yesterday. Professor Hewitson, the Revs. D. Dutton and R. L. Walker, and Messrs Walter Gow and P. G. Fryde returned from Auckland by yesterday’s express. Hr T. Harrison left yesterday for Timarn, where he intends to reside, and later enter into practice. Sir Robert StQul and Stir George Fenwick were passengers by the express yesterdav for Oamaru, where they took part in the ceremony of unveiling a memorial to the memory of the late Hon. George Jones, M.L.C. Mr C. G. White returned .to Wellington by tile express yesterday. Dr J. P. Fronglcy, Deputy Directorgeneral of Health, left for Christchurch by the express yesterday. Mr W. B. M’iJwan left for Christchurch by yesterday’s express. Mr IV. S. Falla, general traffic manager for the Union Steam Ship Company, arrived on Monday night. He will return north to-day. Mr Massey, who has entered on a busy election campaign in the South Island, does not expect to bo back in Wellington until after election day (December 7)’ Mr T. W. Attwood, of Wellington, president and managing director of the New' Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation, after a tour of Central Otago, will proceed north this morning. A London Press Association cable message announces the death of Mrs Alice Moynell, poet and essayist. She was the wife of Mr Wilfrid Meyncll and a sister of Lady Butler, painter of "The Roll Call.” Her collected poems had a groat success in 1913. Mr A. G. Butchers, a prominent local Freemason, left here by the express yesterday to attend the ceremony of installing Lord Jellicoc ns Grand Master in Christ church. Prior to their departure for Masterton (writes our Palmerston correspondent) the Rev. J. Davie and Mrs Davie were entertained at a largely-attended fatcwoll social in the Town Hall. Mrs W. J. M‘Kenny, sen., on behalf of those present, presented Mrs Davie with a. case of cutlery and a travelling bag. The presentation to Mr Davie consisted of a purse of sovereigns, and was made by Mr L. R. Morris. Through Mr Brand, on behalf of the Shag Point congregation, Mr Davie was also the recipient of a handsome travelling bag. During the evening songs wore given hy Mosdames W. Mayer, G. B. Smith, J. Sutherland, Miss Teviotdale, and a recitation by Miss Moody.
