South Dunedin, has already attracted i, great deal of attention, and many have i;ecn the speculations as to who would iceupy them. Tho corner promises, however, " yesterday drew up .its l;linds, and exposed to view goods of a varied description interesting to all —adnlt or children—who admired tho useful and the beautiful, and South Dunedin residents now know that this “corner shop” will henceforth bo known as “Dawson’s Crescent,” having been leased by the present proprietor of the original Dawsons, who. for over 40 years, aave been known as jewellers and watchmakers. of Ceoi’go street, in the city, and who claim, to be the first of all the present firms of the name doing, business •in their lines in Dunedin. Cargill’s corner is certainly greatly improved in appearance berth by the new building and the attractive window display at “Dawson’s Crescent. Starling from the King Edward street frontage the first exhibit to meet (he admiring gaze of passers-by is a very tasteful and varied display of modern jewellery, watches, clocks, etc,, and just past the front entrance and fronting Cargill road one is involuntarily “pulled up” to admire glassware and fancy crockery, arid, still further on. the children of .South Dunedin are now delightfully pointing out to one another (lie particular handsome yet inexpensive Christmas toy uncle must • —no denial allowed —buy for them. Entering the premises customers will, of course, find a still further display of goods appertaining to tho usual business of . jewellers, watchmakers, opticians, and diamond setters, and also of Hint particular description of fancy goods now usually found in such establishments, and all, it will he noticed, are- admirably and tastefully set off by tho architect’s choice of fixtures, designed to harmonise with the goods to be. displayed—-i.e., there is nn extensive and ornamental fibrous plaster roof, oak panelling on the walls, and a specially prepared floor smoothly dressed and coloured spread over concrete. The counters are of the finest joinery work, and the carpet, laid before them, lends to the whole tin air of comfort. For tho safety cf tho customers’ goods, and the firm’s also, a substantially built safe room is on the premises, and tho conveniences provided for the attendants are modern in the best sense. South Dunedin, residents will no doubt generously recognise the enterprise of the proprietor of “Dawson’s Crescent” in catering in tho handsome manner he is doing for their patronage.
