A BANDITS' BATTLE
SENSATIONAL BANK ROBBERY. Proas Association —By Telegraph—Copyrigat NEW YORK, November 23. A message from Gallatin (Missouri) reports a sensational bank robbery, which resulted in the shooting of the mayor, the town marshal, and another citizen, who. gave battle to the rqhbers. Six bandits broke into the First National Bank, and they were discovered by the marshal just as explosives were set before the vault, which blew up with terrific force, destroying the safe and wrecking the building. The marshal opened fire, whereupon <lie was shot down. Others, attracted by the explosion, rushed at the robbers, who after a severe gun battle, escaped with 4000dol out of 30,000d0l within the vault. Scores of citizens turned out and endeavoured to cut off the bandits, who kept up a fusillade of shots, driving the former to cover.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
