PIPE BAND CONTEST

A contest, for pipe hands of the dominion is to ho held next, month in Wellington, and the Dunedin Pipe Band, now the holder of the piping championship for the dominion, intends to proceed to the contest and endeavour to retain the championship. A strong committee Ims been arranging the raising of the necessary funds for travelling, and, to enable this to be clone, two monster Scottish nights, under the patronage of the local Scottish societies, have been promoted. These will he_ held in Burns Hall on Wednesday and Thursday next, the 29th and 30th. A brilliant gathering of artists has been made, and the following will appear on Wednesday evening;—The Pipe Band will march to the hall and onen the proceedings; solos will ho rendered by Mrs W. Andrews, Miss Bessie Macpherson. and Messrs S. G. Apgcll and S. Taylor; quartets will he given by the Idlers’ Party. The principal items will be displays of dancing hv Misses Beula.h King, Eileen M'Oarthy, Edna Gray. Rita Bode, May Thompson, Winnie Robinson, Annie Monro. May Iluncrerford, Ma ggio Gall, and Lorna Budge, all of whom are well known exponents of the art. Miss Thelma Gillespie will also give . a special item, and also Messrs R. Clark and Eric Gordon. Piping music will be supplied by well known experts. The full programme appears in (his issue, and as popular prices are charged there is no doubt the deserving object will he fully supported by all friends of the Dunedin Pipe , Band.
