SPORTING.

DUNEDIN SPUING MEETING. SUCCESSFULLY CONCLUDED,. The concluding day of the Dunedin .•lockoy Club's spring- meeting was held in threatening weather, but; beyond a shower and a cold wind tho card was got off without any serious discomfort. The track was again very hard. Many Kittle made a one-, horse race of (ho Dunedin Cuinoas, and proved himself a fair three-year-old, as his record this season is three starts and throe wins. Donnie Witikie again won decisively, and Royal Mae, greatly improved by his race on the first day, won well in tho chief sprint on tho card. Two surprise winners in Ronnie Lake and San Salvador turned, up during the day, bait in the majority ot events backers got fairly dose to the mark. Tho financial returns of tho meeting wore satisfactory, as the total investments were in excess of last year, when, however, the meeting concluded in -bad Weather.

Mr A. D. M'lvor displayed improved work at the barrier, ami had his fields in good lino at each dispatch. In tho last race the field quickly straggled, and some w;oro badly loft, but tho horses appeared to be fairly set at the release of tho barrier.

.The Wakari Hurdles proved to be an excellent betting race, in which Romance, Strathglass, aitd Londonderry were about equally supported, whilst Mystico and (Irange were also fairly well supported. Mystico tipped out when in charge with Londonderry at tho mile post, and when they wore travelling along the back stretch Strathglass moved up and was in charge as they rounded the. far turn, where Old Gold improved his position. Old Gold got to Strathglass as they raced to the last hurdle, and Londonderry came on again. A good race home saw Old Gold wear down Strathglass and boat him by a good half-length. Londonderry finished about four lengths away, third, then Grange and Prize Rose next. \V. Feikling, tho rider of Mystico, escaped injury. Murihaupo was backed down as a certainty for the Dominion Handicap, carrying over twice the amount of support accorded Lucinolle, who was next in demand." There was a long delay at the post owing to Courtly Roso’s gear requiring adjustment, and then faintly Dreamer caused further delay bv playing up. They were finally sent away from a fair line. Murihaupo' was first to show out, but was immediately supplanted by Courtly Rose., and then by Bonnie Lake, who appeared to cut in on the favourite. Bonnie Lake raced to tho front and led Courtly Rose and Murihaupo to the lurp, where the supporters expected the favourite to come on, but Bonnie Lake boat him comfortably by about four lengths. Saintly Dreamer ivas a bad third, and then came the stablemates Olympia and Courtly Rose. The others-made' a poor show. The winner is a smallish filly, but fairly forward in condition. She was bred by Mr L, C. Hazlott, ,q ky Sunny Lake from Drbski. by utepmak Whirlpool, bv St. George—Watersprite, by Iradncer—Waterwitch A field of seven went out for'the Dunedin Guineas, and as a result of his display on the opening day Many Kittle was backed down to a strong odds-on chance. The confidence was well justified, as the favouriio, | always prominent from a good start, finally won going away from the others ns hey came up the straight. It promised to be a good go for second honours at tlio distauno, whore the pursuers of Manv Kittle were, in fairly close order, but at the finish Warhaven beat Bonghleen Dhoun by nearly two lengths. Lovesign, who accompanied Many Kittle to the turn, faded into fourth place. Ardour was running last four furlongs from home, and then raced up to tho leaders before reaching the straight, whore she faded out again and finished last Prosperity ran a bad race, and evidently has not trained on since winning a . s a Iwo-ycnr-old. They got away from a fair line in theKaikorni Handicap, but Loughrea. for whom strong, support came, was last to move lie sobn readied the front, and was attended by Proceoder and Balasor at the ■far turn, where Wartuue was lying fourth. 1 roceodov went on from Loughrea before reaching the straight, and Gunlayer irnproved Ins position. Inside tho distance ban ran past tho leaders, and went on to win by over four lengths from Gunlayer, who beat Proccedor by about lengths, Loughrea faded qui; in' the straight, and was beaten for fourth place by Orange Bitters. Two well-backed chances in Calibration and Matnta failed to get conspicuous at th f o business end of the journey. Mantua and Twinkle were struck out of the Ranfurly Handicap, leaving five runners. Bonnie Winkio was made a pronounced favourite, and won easier than he did in the Mosgiel Handicap. Etta led to- the straight, where the favourite was on terms, and, drawing away, won nicely by about a length and a-hnlf from General Advance, whilst Silent King was nearly throe lengths away. Bonnie Winkie won so well, apd is (raining on so pleasingly, ns ro suggest that it is a matter of regret that he was not allowed to retain his engacement in the New Zealand Cup, in which the weight for age penaltv conditions would have debarred him from getting a serious penalty, amounting as it would to 61h over his handicap of 8.6. The scratching pen was freely used in Ihe Shorts -Handicap, and Silver Peak, Sunny Loch, aird Glentruin were withdrawn, leav ing seven to face the starter. Franchise, who gave a, good deal of (rouble at the post and unshipped Emmerson. was a rather better favourite than Royal Mac and Rosedav. They cot away in good lino, from which Bella Lake was first to show out. She was joined by Mantua and .Tankaroo, and the last-named headed a fairly close running field at the far -turn. Jackaroo opened about a five leurrilis’ lend ns they turned for homo, and Ms win was pro-, claimed, but; he stopped badly, and Royal Mac, who had always been going well, finished fast and got up to win by a nood nock. Deucalion was a moderate third. alVont four lengths away, and Rnsedav next. The favourite faded out in the straight and finished last, just behind Mantua and Belle. Lake. Red (town finished up a better favourite than Gountorstrnke in tho Telegraph Weller. Red Pal again opened up'a good load, hut Goumerslroko not mi terms as hoop as they reached tho straight, and won, going a.wav. by four lengths from Mirzn. who bent Calibration bv about three lengths. Rod Gown, despite the null of 71b allowance, did not shape ton well under her apm-euticn pilot. , , . , ~ \ field of 14 faced the barrmr for the concluding event on the card, .ami Kerb was elected a solid favourite. Brisk r l lone and Red AW'oy were badly left at die rise of the barrier and Lovesign and Kerry Star soon drew clear and led St. Augustus. In the Pink, and Osterman ns they approached the si might, whom tho leaders stopped to nothing, and In the. Pink, taking -charge at, Uu. distance, woil by over two lengths from Kerb, who boat, Overman ft short half length in a good fight, for second money. Bosker Boy was a good, fourth, and then ■ came Goldsninuer and Ravenna. The machine handled £31.051 10s for die day. as compared with £25.855 for the corresponding dav last year. The total for die meet ing came to £50.251 iOs. as against £48.656 for Iho spring meeting ot 194 i. Following are tho results:— WAKARI HURDLE HANDICAP. Of ,225snve. second 45sovs. and thud 22U-OVS.
