MANCHESTER UNITY

The success attending the meetings of Loyal Roxburgh Lodge is largely duo to the 'splendid“.(entertainment "provided. They are at present’‘running a scries of mock public meetings, the motions put forward at those mock meetings creating a great deal of spirited and amusing discussion. The object of the whole thing is to induce tire young and inexperienced members to stand up and air their views, a most commendable aim, Quito recently Provi-D.G.M. Bro. J. A. Robson paid the lodge an . official visit. He was warmly received and gave members an interesting, address on matters which are engaging the attention of the executive at the present time. Ho was accorded a hearty vote of thanks, the opinion being expressed that such visits as Bro. Robson s worth, do much to stimulate interest among country lodges and educate them in matters of vital importance to the order. There Is little to record regarding tb« ■meoting of Loyal Oaversham Lodge. -N. Bio. A. Stewart was in the chair, and congratulated the lodge on file healthy state of members, the sick list being very small. Bro. A. Lewis was granted a letter of recommendation to Loyal Heart of Friendshir* Lodge, Waimato, in which town he is stav ing in business. Visiting brethren from Loyal Albion and Centenary Lodges returned thanks for the usual sentiment. N.G. Bro. M'Donald presided over the _ usual" fortnightly meeting of Loyal Albion Lodge. Members were in mourning owiuy to the death of Bro. Kennard, an aged mem her. One member was initiated and two proposals for membership received. Bro. Abernethy was installed in the Warden’s chair!,. vice Bro. Who bad resigned. was ability to continue in office. The meeting was a good one, with attendance above the average. Representatives of Loyal Hand and Heart, Valley, and Cavensbam Lodges were present. A large amount of routine business was dealt with in the Loyal Hand and Heart Lodge at the meeting held on September 26. N.G. Bro. Austin presided, and had the support of a largo gathering of members. Visiting brethren were present from the Montccillo Home- and Loyal Albion, Tapanui, Centenary, and Tauranga Lodges. Two new members -were admitted during' the evening and one other proposed for membership. An enjoyable dance was held later. Things went merrily until 11 p.m., supper being handed round during an interval. The meeting of Loyal Valley Lodge, held on September 25. was responsible for a good gathering of members and visiting brethren. Being quarter nighf, there was a considerable amount of extra- business which required attention. This was quickly despatched under, the guidance of N.G. Bro. Mitchell, who later in the evening presented to P.G. Bro, H. Wells, .on behalf of the lodge, an oak cake stand, furnished .with the necessary ware, in recognition of long and valued set vice in the interest of the lodge. Several members spoko in eulogistic terms of the recipient's very fine record in Oddfellowship. Bro. Wells was greeted with the Oddfellows’ toast. Ho appropriately returned thanks. N.G. Bro. Bretherton presided over a very fair attendance of members of the Loyal Cromwell Lodge on September 22. The N.G. expressed regret at the departure of G.M. Bro. Kibblewhite, who is leaving for Waimate. A vote of sympathy was passed to the V.G., Bro. Munro, whose family has suffered a sad bereavement. The Per. Secretary was hot in his usual place, being laid aside by sickness. One candidate was proposed for admission, making three on the hooks for ballot. Bro. Liddicoate (Hand and Heart! replied to the second toast. After the routine business was done, a social evening was held, members of kindred societies also partaking. The progressive euchre tournament was won by the ladies, Mrs Bradley 1 'coming first; Miss A. Parcell won the other prize. Bros. Olds and Kibblewhite won the first prize for the men. Several ladies and brothers contributed items to the vocal part of the programme. After refreshments were handed round, ’ dancing was carried on till about midnight, before “ Auld Lang Syne ” brought an enjoyable evening to a close. P.G. Bro. M. Ritchie gave the guests a. few hints on the good points of Oddfellowship.
