CREATION
- NEW THEORY EVOLVED. (From Oub Own Correspondent.) SYDNEY, September 28. A remarkable new theory of creation has been evolved by Lord Clifford,. h.Cr.S-., F.C.S., at one time a resident of Tasmania, who is again visiting .Australia. If the theory is established, it may supplant lhat proiionneed by Einstein, according- to Lord Clifford, “ft seems to me,” hc°said, “that the Einstein theory is only a modification of aimthor phenomena of which wo are daily acquiring more and more evidence. Although Lord Clifford is averse to laying down a hard-and-fast, theory until investigations have been made more complete, yet its main outline is: “That all mailer has been produced by the shortening of .wavelength per inch of light or ether, owing to explosion of light or other currents meeting from opposite directions. “I have been able,” he said, “mathematically to establish an index ratio of all mutter and psvchic forces in relation to the total wave-lengths of light or ether, winch may solve many problems in organic and inorganic chemistry.” . “I have also been working for the last, four years, in conjunction with Dr Beniamin Moore, on the evolution of organic old of inorganic matter, and it is mainly owing to suggestions of mine that Dr Monro achieved definite results 12 months before they were likewise achieved in different maimer by Professor Bally, of Liverpool.” Lord Clifford's work was taken up by the presidents of the English Zoological and Geological Societies. In 1920 the Evolution Society was founded as the result of some of Lord Clifford's work by Dr Moore, late psychist at Oxford, who died last, March, and Professor Bickorlon. well known in Australia and New Zealand. Of that society Lord Clifford is now president, and is touring Australia mainly with the object, he says, of founding branches of the society throughout Australia. He has succeeded In starting branches in Perth, Adelaide, and Hobart. Lord Clifford contested (he Federal seat of Franklin (Tasmania) in 1905, against the present member. Mr MAVilliams. Prior to lhat he was engaged in sheep farming in New Zealand, and took a prominent part in the public life of the Marlborough province. He crossed to Tasmania in 1890, and engaged both in business and farming. He succeeded to valuable estates and to his title upon the death of the late Lord Clifford, and returned to England,
