(Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND. October 3. A fire was caused at Wilson’s cement works at Warkworth at 3 a.m. to-day th rough a red-hot clinker from the rotary kilns overflowing tho lank on to the floor of the mill. The damage is estimated at £2OOO. An early discovery of the outbreak prevented further extensive damage. Operations at the works wore not stopped. X.ater_ information shows that tho damage at Warkworth amounted to about £IOOO. Work will be delayed for three .or four weeks, but the company has stocks to carry on for some time. The origin of the fire is unknown. When the Kowhai Junior High School was opened this morning 670 would-bo pupils assembled, whereas 600 was the number provided for, the surplus being attracted from districts other than those for whose senior pupils the school was intended. CHRISTCHURCH, October 3. Mr IT. AV. AVilkinson, accountant to Messrs Forbes (Ltd.), Wellington, fell from the early train in Lyttelton tunnel, and was in the tunnel when tho up train passed through. He managed to walk out of the tunnel, suffering from a broken elbow and bruises, and was admitted to the hospital. AVAIMATE, October 3. AValter Richard Wilson, aged 20, a labourer, pleaded guilty to breaking, entering, and the theft of money and valuables totalling £52 ss. He was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence, bail being allowed in £IOO and two sureties of £IOO each.
