MOSGIEL BOROUGH COUNCIL
The monthly meeting of the Jjfosgiet Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor (Mr AVm. Allan) presiding. Mr AA r . J. Mitchell wrote thanking the council for the resolution passed at last melting in connection with his resignation, as borough inspector.—Received. The Secretary, Combined Picnic Committee invited the council to send 1 , delegates to a meeting to discuss a MOsgiel picnic.— Crs AVright and Davidson appointed. B. M'Cann applied for a connection to, sewer from his property at,comer of Inglis and Irvine streets —Referred to AA T orks Committee. The Finance Committee reported receipts since last meeting, £315 4s 7d, and submitted and recommended for payment accounts totalling £212 8s Gd. —Adopted The AA r orks Committee reported that the following matters had been attended to: AA r atcr: Eighty-one feet of Jin pipe had been laid in Lanark street and a connection laid to the boundary for a ratepayer. Several defective meters had been replaced by new ones, and 12 meters had been forwarded to Dunedin for overhaul. The intakes and reservoir have been visited, all scour valves and dead-ends run off and sewers flushed Drainage: A sewer connection had been laid to the boundary of a property in Church street, and two new drainage connections tested and passed. The pump at the tanks .had given considerable trouble and authority has been granted to purchase 12 now buckets. Gordon Road Park: The work ot top-dressing and improving the park had been completed at a cost of £IOB 15s sd, of which amount the Taieri R.S.A. contributed £B2 14s 6d. Authority bad been granted to purchase a new lawn mower for cutting grass. It was proposed to plant annuals in. the flower beds, and offers of suitable plants would bo accepted by the committee.— Adopted. GENERAL. It was decided to procure 20 chains for use of stage in hall. Cr Henderson mentioned the matter of water troughs, already decided on.—The clerk explained that the inspector had the work on his list. , A deputation was present from the Hatepayers’ Association of tho Taieri Expansion League, urging the removal of household refuse and ashes by some systematic method.—Tho Mayor explained that tho council had tho matter under consideration. —Mr Paterson, who was spokesman for the deputation, complimented the council' on the choice of Mr Butcher as borough inspector, vice Mr AA r . J. Mitchell (resigned).
