GREEN ISLAND COUNCIL

The usual monthly meeting of the Greer Island Borough Council, held last night was attended by tho Mayor (Mr J. L Miller) and Crs R. J. Reeve, F. Eason, J, Smith, W. T. Smellie. A. Harrison, A. Kane, and I. Thomkins. The Finance Committee recommended the payment of accounts amounting to £3Ol 17s Id (receipts amounting to £9l 15s lid); that tho council pass a. resolution striking a special rate to pay off the antecedent liability: that tho council accept the Rev. G. P. Hunt’s invitation to attend his morning service on October 8; that Mr Ohesney’s letter bo referred to the full council. —Adopted. The Works Committee reported aa follows on work carried cut during the month; All the- footpaths have been top-dtessed with screenings; asphalt has been put down in front of Mr Gardiner’s shop, and all other asphalt has been patched and topdressed with tar and sand. Two trucks' of metal have been put on boundary road. North Taieri. The committee recommended that the letter from the Superintendent of Police regarding the enforcement of the by-law with regard to wandering cattle be received; that the reouest from the Green Island Bowling Club for a crossing from the Main road to the green be granted, subject, to tho usual conditions; that Mr Wood’s tender for the sanitary con--tract- be accepted; that the stumps on the' section at the back of the Council Chambers ■ bo removed; that pipe be put in the crossing at London street; and that-the worker placing the pipes in the Main road be' proceeded with. —Adopted. The Reserves Committee reported:— At Miller Park all fences have been put in order and a new fence has been put up on the boundary road and a new gate and posts and turnstile put. in. _ A new culvert has been put in and the ditch cleaned out on the District road from end to end. The fence in Earl street has been repaired with old posts and new stakes, and new sheepnetting wire has been put on so that no-. thing Van get in from the back of the ground. The fence in Princes street has also been repaired and strained. Gorse has been cut on the hill part of the ground, and all broom taken out along the side of the road. All bare part? of ground have been tep-dressed with soil and made ready for the grass seed—Adopted.
