The Government gagged the Unemployed' Workers’ Bill through the Assembly, the Premier exercising his proxy vote for the Home Secretary. A number of the members of the Opposition left the Chamber as a protest against the gag and proxyvoting. The measure is popularly known as the “Loafers’ Paradise Bill.” EIGHT-HOUR DAY CELEBRATION. SYDNEY, October 2. (Received Oct. 2J.at 1125 p.m.) Eight-hour Day was celebrated in fine weather by the usual procession, which was witnessed by many thousands, but it was not equal to previous efforts. Only a small number of unionists participated.
