OLD ATLASES.

’ TO THB EDITOR. Sir,— Mention is made in to-day’s paper of the presentation of an old Atlas of the World published in, 1857 by James and Adam Blade, of Edinburgh. I have in my possession one published by Adam and Charles Blade in 1847, comprising 61' maps from latest and most authentic sources engraved on steel by Sydney Hall ' Hughes, geographical descriptions, and an index of 57,500 names giving latitude and longitude of places besides a lot of other information. The names of the North ana South Islands of New Zealand are the same as given in the atlas, and Stewart Island is New Leinster. This copy, which is in a good state of preservation and well bound, was presented, as a written' inscription shows, to the late Mr George Lloyd in 1848.—1 am, etc., William Kirkland. Green Island. \ : PROHIBITION LAW. TO THE EDITOR Sir. —“Indignant' Prohibitionist” is not a prohibitionist at all, first, on his own showing in his letters; and, second, because on one worthy of the name of i a prohibitionist would write as he has, done about alcohol. When the electors in the no-license districts voted on National Prohibition in 1919, they voted just as strongly for it as they did for local no-license. This proves that the people are quite prepared to cut alcoholic drinks right out as beverages, ns well as abolish liquor licenses. There has been no alteration in the law since 1919. Besides, your correspondent must know that there will be nothing in the National Prohibition law to stop people making all the numerous homemade drinks, used at the present time, provided these are not intoxicating. It is onlv intoxicating alcoholic drinks that will be prohibited.—l am, etc.. New Zealander.
