DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE. Towards the middle of the week the buying quotations for War Bonds dropped a few shillings, and the tone on the market was none too healthy. Mattel’s have now improved, however, and yesterday’s quotations were on a level with those of the previous week. The only sale on ’Change in this stock was a parcel of 5 per cent. Inscribed P.O. Bonds (1927) at £96 2s 6d, while two were reported—one of 41 per cent. War Bonds (1938) at £97, and one of 5J per cent. S.S. Bonds (1933) at £99 10a. Three parcels of Bank of Now Zealand shares have changed hands—one on Saturday and one on Thursday at 555, and one yesterday at Sts 9d—the market closing yesterday with a buyer at 54s 9d. and a seller at 50s. Buyers have been offering between 19s 3d and 19s 9d for Union Steam (pref.) shares, sales being reported at the latter price on Wednesday and yesterday. In coal shares a sale of Westports at 32s 3d was recorded on ’Change on Tuesday, and a sale of Tuupiris was reported on Wednesday at 17s l)d. There were two sales of Huddart, Parker (ord.) shares on Tuesday at 49s 3d and 49s 6d, and sales were recorded of Milburn Lime and Cement and Wilson’s (N.Z.) Cement at 31s and 20s respectively. Business in insurance shares was confined to New Zialands, of which a sale was reported on Thursday at 28s 3d. There was not the same activity in New Zealand Refrigerating shares as during the previous week, the only sale being a parcel of the contributing issue on Tuesday at 12s 9d.
