MILITANT SUFFRAGETTE METHODS
NEW ZEALANDER BREAKS' A " WINDOW. "WAKING UP” THE GOVERNMENT. (From Oue Own Correspondent.) LONDON, July 27. Robert Milligan, aged '27, an ex-member of the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces, who is still in London, has a grievance. He is convinced that it is the duty of the Dominion Government to repatriate-him, and he has the courage of his conviction. Last Saturday evening ho hurled, a knife at the glass of the front door of the High Commissioner’s Office, and broke a pane, which will cost £2 to replace. He then accosted the nearest policeman and said: "I have just broken a window at the New Zealand Government Offices. Will you arrest me? The Government won’t repatriate me, and if this does not wake them up I will break another window.” Ho was duly arrested, and appeared at Bow Street Police Court this week and was remanded. It appears that Milligan was one of those members of the forces who elected to remain in England. Ho obtained suitable employment and has remained at one address, 27 Argyle street, for a year or two. Recently he has lost his position, and has applied to the High Commissioner’s Department for repatriation. Facilities for repatriation were closed down by order of the Government on November 11, 1921, three years after the Armistice, and consequently the department in London have had to refuse Milligan a free passage to the dominion.
