A competition in Highland dancing and a Scotch concert -were held at Waikmiaiti on September 1. Mr A. M‘Kay (from Dunedin) was judge. Those who assisted on the concert were Miss Annie Duff, Mrs Blair, Messrs J. Fyfe. Ceilings, and Smith, Misses M‘Carthy. Robinson (2), Sinclair, and Master Sinclair. Miss Ina Summera proved an efficient accompanist. Mis* Duff delighed her audience with hep splendid singing. The following is the list), of prize-winners in the dancing competition:—Sword dance, under 13 years (girls)— Rosaline - Aitchenson 1, Bessie Russell 2. Highland fling—Bessie Russell 1, Rosaline Aitchenson 2. Se’anu Trubhais (girls over 12 years)—Miss K. Murray 1, Miss W. Murray 2. Irish jig—Miss K. Murray 1, Miss W. Murray 2. Highland fling (boys)— Jack Jones 1, Willie AHcock 2. Irish jig (boys)—Jack Jones 1, Willie Alloock 2. Highland fling (open)—W. Murray 1, T. Head 2. Pipers M'Millen, MTCillop, and Smith supplied the pine music, and Mr P. M'Carthy conducted the programme.
