A 1 “ FASCINATING FAILURE;” Mr J. B. Reid has been attending Newmarket this week (says our London correspondent, writing on July 13), and he has purchased the hay colt Charlie Chaplin, whom i the sporting papers describe as ' a “fascinating failure.” Mr Joseph Shepherd bought this horse as a yearling for 9400 guineas, and he has now sold it to Mr Reid for 1000 guineas. As a two-year-old, Charlie Chaplin did not race,. and last year he raced on three occasions without being placed.
