Wo even venture to hope that just as the authorised version of tho Bible was produced under tho authority of Shakespeare's great patron. King James I, so eventually a text might bo produced under the authority of our King in Parliament which will meet with the general approval of all reasonable people. It is a happy augury for the success of our scheme (hat next year will be the tercentenary of the publication of th 0 hirst Folio. It is mainly to a revision, or rather a correction, of the Folios that our experts when they gel, together will have to turn their efforts; alterations necessary to restore Shakespeare s own rhythm, punctuation, spelling, and other corrections. They want tho co-opcra-tion of those who act and produce Shakespeare’s plays. Tiro new volume is to be a people’s edition, in one clear-typed volume easily read, arranged m chronological order without art and scenic devices, without obsolete spelling, with a punctuation which recognises that the words were written to be spoken, and not merely read, and with an arrangement of tho verso such ns will give due prominence to Shakespeare rhythm.”—(Cheers).
