A Foutherston family participated fn a sensational and painful experience one evening recently. The mother of the family hoard a dog whining, and left by the backdoor to ascertain the cause. As she did not immediately return one of the young sons stopped out into the darkness to investigate and did not return. A second son then left the house, and, on hearing calls, tlio father rushed out, and landed in the company of other members of i'ho household at the bottom of a well. Their cries attracted the attention of a neighbour, who, with the assistance of a rope, hauled the family up one by one from (heir unsought dilemma. Tt was found that the mother was suffering from bruises and shock, and had to take to her bed for several days. that the covering of an unknown well immediately outside the back door had subsided, and as each member of the family walked outside he or the fell into the cavity. The well was about 20 feet deep and there was two feet of water at tie bottom.
