EXPORT OF LAMBS
■KIDNEYS AND KIDNEY FAT. 'practice to be stopped. (Pm Dotted Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 4. The Now Zealand Moat Producers’ Board has issued a statement that in a report to tlm board the manager has drawn attention to a practice which many freezing works have of taking out the kidneys of lambs, and also a great part of the kidney fat. The board has gone into the matter very fully, and is unanimously of opinion that this practice is not in the interests of the producers and is a great economic loss to the dominion. In tho course of its 'investigations the board has ascertained that there were 5,961,287 lambs killed for export this season up to July 15. After quoting figures the board says it is very apparent that the freezing companies are not maki-sg any profit out of this practice. It is certainly very costly to tho producers or exporters. This year alone, based on killings to July 15, the loss amounted to: 703,527 lambs killed in tho North Island, the estimated loss at a value of 8d per head is £23,450; 2,535,905 killed in tho South Island, the estimated loss at a value of lid per head, £116,228; —a total loss of £139,678. Tho board has now notified all freezing companies that the kidneys and kidney fat must ho left in all lambs slaughtered for export. ■
