Friday, August 4. (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) Drunkenness. —John Edward Hynes was fined 10s, with the alternative of 24 hours’ imprisonment. Bicyclists Fined.—Allan Mitchell was fined 5s and costs (7s) for riding a bicycle without lights after sundown in Prince Edward road, St. Kilda,— —John Charles Brookes was fined 5s and costs (7s) for riding upon the .Richardson street footpath. L-awrenoe Peart was similarly fined for a similar offence. A Silly Impersonation.—A youth 19 years of age was charged, on remand, with assuming the designation of a police de-tective.—Chief-detective Bishop stated that the case had been adjourned in order to see if accused would behave himself.—F. G. Camming (Probation Officer) reported that the youth’s conduct had been highly satisfactory, and it was suggested that he be placed on probation for a fixed period. —Accused was admitted to probation for a period of two years, the publication of the name being prohibited. Breach of Building By-laws.—John Andrew Orlowski was charged with erecting a stable without a permit in the borough of St. Kilda, and with thereby committing a breach of the by-laws.—Mr J. B. Gallon appeared for the borough of St. Kilda and Mr W. L. Moore for defendant, who pleaded guilty.—Mr Gallon explained that application had been made by defendant lor a permit, but there was n by-law prohibiting the erection of a building, other than concrete or brick, at a less distance than sft from the boundary. This building was 3ft away, and the permit could not be granted.—Mr Moore said that defendant had shifted back to what he said was sft from the boundary.—The Magistrate said the case could be m«t by a conviction, and convicted defendant with costs (£2 9s). Prohibition Order.—A prohibition order was made against a man.
