tFxi Unitto Pbuw Association.) WELLINGTON, August 3. A boy named John Rich Walling, while playing near his father’s lorry at Bona Bay this morning, was killed by a case which fell from the vehicle. A prisoher named Thomas John O’Brien, aged 41 years, who was serving two years for breaking and entering ,at Wanganui, committed suicide by hanging in his cell in the Terrace Gaol this morning. At breakfast he appeared normal, but an hour later was found dead. At an official inquiry evidence was given that deceased had complained of pains in the hood, and had received attention from the prison surgeon. He had taken his food regularly, but had not slept well. He had hanged himself by using; a hammock rope. A verdict that deceased committed suicide by hanging, and nobody' was to blame, was returned. NAPIER, August 3. Faith in a qugck prescription printed on a pamphlet assuring renders that every man can be his own doctor i resulted in the death at Napier Hospital last night of Sidney Charles Forrest,, a widower, aged 72 years. Deceased suffered from headache and nervous troubles, and resolved to try a remedy he found mentioned in a pamphlet thrown over the gate. He procured the ingredients from a chemist and made the mixture himself. Either the prescription was a dangerous one or deceased used the wrong proportions, for he was admitted to tho hospital on Tuesday with symptoms ot poisoning, and died as stated. At an. inquest it was stated that deceased bought and boiled extracts instead of tho herbs to make up a prescription taken from a medical book. Tho medical evidence was to the effect that death was due to kidney disease, accelerated by an overdose of spirits of juniper and oil o f wintergreen. which, however, would not affect a man in normal health. A young man named John Black, a Erocor’s assistant in tho employ of Mr ang, of Palmerston, was admitted to the Dunedin Hospital yesterday suffering from severe abrasions. He was descending a hill on his bicycle, when the fork broke, am' ho oame down heavily on the road, sustaining the, injuries which necessitated his admission to the Hospital.
