STRIKE IN ITALY
PUBLIC SERVICES STOPPED. POLICE PRECAUTIONS. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright ROME, August 1. A general strike took place at midnight. The newspapers did not appear. The railways are partially affected, and the tramways and other public services are stopped. The post offices, hanks, and business places are open. The Government has taken complete police and military measures to preserve order. The troops are concentrated at the danger spots. In the meantime the Fascists have been mobilised. They declare that unless the strike ends within 48 hours they will use force to establish order.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
