The Sackville street fires in Dublin have been extinguished. Little reniains, of the row of structures between Findlaters and Cathedral streets. Several of the premises opposite were also destroyed. Over 20 buildjngs were burned down. A later estimate of the damage due to the revolt is that it will run into several millions. Many cases of looting occurred. Altogether 25 of Dublin's most important buildings were destroyed by fire or are burning. Business in Dublin ifi being resumed. Some of the principal banks, tho post office, and shops have opened. Mrs M'Swmey and Miss Barry have been released. The report of Mr de Valera s capture has not been confirmed. His whereabouts is unknown. , The population received the news of tne crushing of the rebellion with jubilation. A. DASH BOR SAFETY PAHA BROUGHT DOWN BY A VOLLEY. LONDON, July 6. Mr Brugha’s arrest was most dramatic. It was at first thought that he was trapped in the burning building. Firemen smashed the door, and Brugha sprang out, dirt-begrimed and desperate, with a drawn revolver. He swept aside the men who rushed to his side, and ran towards an outpost of Nafional troops. When ordered to stop, he replied fiercely, “No, no.” Brugha was again ordered to stop, but he continued running. The men fired a volley, and Brugha pitched forward, with a dangerous wound in his leg, and Jay still for a second before he attempted to rise, but he collapsed with his face turned up. He was removed to the hospital, where the bullet was extracted. Brugha is in a weak condition.—A. and N.Z. Cable. The Evening News’s Dublin correspondent, describing the surrender of Mr Brugha’s party, says that after two nurses emerged from the burning building the cry of “The White Flag” was raised. The officers ordered the men to cease fire. Then a blackened face appeared in a doorway. The bearer of the white flag was Art. O’Connor, an ex-member of the Dail ESreann. He emerged, followed by six others. As they were surrounded by the Regulars they continued to cry : “We did all we could, and fought to the last.” A few moments later, Mr Brugha made bis dash, flourishing a revolver. A doctor urged him to desist, but on his refusing he was shot down. O’Connor jubilantly told everybody: “There were only 16 of us; no man could have done more.” Asked where was de Valera, O’Connor replied: “AH these people escaped three days ago.” When a Regular officer said that it was time to be going, O’Connor shouted: “Soldiers fall m.” The Regular officer replied: ‘Soldiers of the Republic, you are prisoners-”—A. and N.Z. Cable. DE VALERA’S ESCAPE. LONDON, July 6. There are many rumours now that Mr de Valera has escaped. The rumour most prevalent is that he was disguised as a hearse-driver. (Received July 7, at 5.5 p.m.) It is believed that Messrs do Valera, Stack, and Barton escaped ou Tuesday night. The whereabout® of the two former is unknown. Barton was found at Lieut.-commander Erakine Childer’s house. A. and N.Z. Cable. REFUGE AT BLESSINGTON. THE VILLAGE ENVELOPED. LONDON, July 7. (Received July 7, at 9 p.m.) It is now believed that Mr do Valera has joined Lieut.-commander Erskine Childers at Blessington, 18 miles south-we?t of Dublin. The Free Staters are enveloping the village and ’ have already driven in the rebel outpost.—A. and N.Z. Cable. GALL TO ARMS. PROVISIONAL GOVERNMENT’S ACTION. LONDON, July 6. The Irish Provisional Government has issued a call to arms instructing all volunteer units to accept service for six months, and that other citizens trilling to serve should recruit through volunteer organisations.—A. and N.Z. FIGHTING IN THE MIDLANDS. BIG BATTLE IN LEITRIM. LONDON, July 6. (Received July 7, at 5.5 p.ra.) There are reports of fierce fighting' in the Irish Midlands. It is estimated that at least 20 people were killed and 100 wounded in a fight lasting several days at Carrick-on-Shannon (Leitrim). The Republicans at Tyrell’s Pass, Westmeath, were beaten off after a desperate attempt to take the barracks from the National forces. The Republicans at Enniscorthv have taken possession of the hotel, schools, and several houses. The roads were blocked and the wires cut. —A. and N.Z. Cable.
