[Kirkwood’s total is 313.] THE LAST ROUND. GREAT EFFORT BY DUNCAN. A SUPERB DISPLAY. KIRKWOOD’S DISAPPOINTMENT. LONDON, June 24. (Received June 25. at 11.6 p.m.) The final rounds were plaved in a strong wind, with intermittent rain squalls. Hagen’s last round in 72 was characterised by deadly approaches, and his run shots were brilliant. He is the first Americanbred professional to win the British golfing blue riband. Hutchison’s third round included fourteen 4’s. Duncan’s last round was a most sensational and wonderful performance against adverse conditions. He went out in 34 and came home in 35. It was the finest round of the championship. At the last tee Duncan wanted four strokes to tie. Amidst the most intense excitement his ball stopped a couple of inches from the lip of the hole, and this failure left Hagen the- winner. Kirkwood, interviewed, said he was much disappointed at the result. He felt that ha had not done himself justice. He had come to England convinced he would play even better than in Australia, and the United States. However, he hoped to return and make another attempt to capture the British championship. Buck had not been altogether with him, but he felt no cause to grumble at it.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
