Amongst the entries were some pens of very prime quality bullocks and heifers, while the bulk of the yarding was made up. of medium to good steers and heifers. As butchers had a, fair supply of cattle in hand from last week's sale, prices again receded from 10s to 20s per head. Of this number there was a fair entry 1 of prime show wethers, while *tho bulk of the yarding was better quality than has been the case of late, the biggest prifc-ortion being prime quality ewes and viewers the number of ewes this week being less than previously. Export buyers were operating, but were not so keen as of late, consequently a drop of Is per head took place on all classes of wethers, while ewes suffered to the extent of 2s per head, inferior quality ewes suffering to an even greater extent. Prime, show wethers realised from £2 to £4; prime wethers, from 26s to 20s fid; medium wet liens, from 20s to 22s fid; light, from 17a to 19s fid; extra prime ewes, to 355; prime ewes, 18s to 23s fid; medium, 14s to 16s: inferior and light, 10s to 12s. NEXT WEEK’S SALE. At a meeting held yesterday at Burnside Saleyarda, butchers and auctioneers being present, it was suggested that next week, being Show Week, no sale should be held; but after discussion it was agreed that the sale take place as usual. We are informed that the Salisbury Butchery will be opening their up-to-date butcher’s shop in Stuart street next week.— Advt. ADDINGTON MARKETS. (Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, May 24. At Addington market to-day there were smaller entries in all classes of sheep. Beef was the only section in over-supply. The
market was similar to last week, except for prime mutton, which advanced about 2s per head. Store Sheep.—A much smaller entry. The demand improved as the sale progressed. •Good ewes were fully up to recent values, and wethers were firm at late rates. Lambs were unaltered. Quotations: Fairly forward lambs, 14s to 15s; good, 12s to 13s 7d, medium, 10s 3d to 11s 9d; good halfbred ewe lambs up to 20s; good crossbred six and eight-tooth ewes, in lamb, 22s 6d to 255; good four-tooth halfbred ewes, in lamb, up to 27s 6d; good foiir-tooth three-quarterbred ewes, in lamb, to 25s 9d; ordinary four, six, and eight-tooth ewes, in lamb, 18s 3d to 20s 3d; failing-mouthed, 10s 5d to 14s lid; aged, 9s to lls; cull, 3s lid to 6s 9d; forward four and six-tooth wethers, 18s 7d to 21s fid; ordinary, 13s lid to 17s; two-tooth, 12s 9d to 14s lid.
Fat Lambs. —3160 penned, compared with 4963 last week, the bulk being of indifferent quality. Prime sorts brought up to last week’s rates, and were worth up to 7Jd per lb; seconds, 7id to 7Jd. Extra prime lambs, 25s to 28s lOd; prime, 21a 9d to 24s 6d; medium, 19s to 21s 6d; light and unfinished, 16s to 18s 9<T Fat Sheep.—An unusually email yarding, and an improvement for prime mutton of up to 2s per head, and more for a few special pens. Extra prime wethers, 28s 6d to 395; prime, 24s 3d to 28s 3d; medium, 20s 3d to 245; light and unfinished. 15s 6d to 19s 9d; extra prime ewes, 24s Cd to 27s 9d; prime, 20s 9d to 24e; medium, 15s to 19s 9d; light and unfinished, 12s 6d to 14s 9d; old, 9s 7d to lls 6d.
Fat Cattle.—44o penned, including some good station lines. Good beef firm, and inferior weak. A West Coast draft of 32 averaged £l4 lls 9d. Store Cattle.—The demand for heifers was not so keen. Four-year-old steers, £5 5s to £6; three-year-old, £3 to £3 15s; two-year, £2 to £2 ss; yearlings, £1 10s to £2; two-year-old heifers in calf, £4 15s to £5 6s; yearling arid 18N months, £2 10s to £3 6s; medium cows, £1 7s 6d to £1 12s 6d} poor, 15s to 20s.
Dairy Cattle. —Prices were lower all round, but good cows just calved or close to calving sold well. Good second and third calvers, to £ls ss; ordinary, £7 10s to £ll4 good springing heifers, to £l3; ordinary, £5 to £8 10s; cows in milk, £5 to £9; aged and inferior, 10s to £3 10s. - Fat Pigs.—A rather brighter sale. Choppers, £3 to £4 15s; light baconers, £3 5s to £3 15s; heavy, £4 to £4 7a 6d; extra heavy, £4 13s 6d—average price per lb, OJd to 6Jd; light porkers, £1 5s to £2 os; heavy, £2 10s to £2 17s 6d —average prioe per lb, 7Jd to Bd. - - Store Pigs.—Values showed little change.
