OTAGO EXPANSION LEAGUE

MOMONA BRANCH The annual meeting of the Momona branch of the Otago Expension League was held on Tuesday night in the hall, Momona Mr A. W. Amos, president of the branch, presiding. There was a good attendance of residents. The balance sheet for the year was prel son ted and adopted. ■ The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, 4 Mr A. W. Amos; secretary, Mr R. Blair; committee Messrs J. Shennsn, Wm. Reid, A. W. Amos, J. G. Walker, R. Blair, A. Moore J. M’Oaddie; supervisors agricultural competition— Messrs Amos, Blair, and M’Caddie. The Chairman announced that the chief object of the meeting was to discuss the possibility of getting electric light for the district.

Mr Chas. Todd, president of the league, at the request of the chairman, addressed the meeting on the subject of the election of a Power Board to reticulate the Taieri and other districts. Power can be had for the counties around Waipori, and if the country people are in earnest they can now proceed to secure the blessing of cheap electric power. Mr Todd explained the maohinery necessary for the creation of a board, and eulogised the comfort and the security which the possession of this power brought with it. A brief outline was given by the speaker of the agreement between the Taieri County Council and the City Corporation, and showed how the Power heard when elected would be the servant of the ratepayers, and that the benefits of the agreement would not be lost to the residents of the plain. The one thing essential is to push your local councillors to support the proposal for the election of a Power Board.,

Mr J. Inglis Wright reminded the audience that the time was most opportune, and if Otago wanted to be in the ran they must not let this opportunity pass. He cited the magnificent record of development in various countries and showed how those countries which have electric power are the keenest in their endeavours to. increase their supply. It is solely the duty of the people to help themselves, and it is only by the united action of the people that advances are made. Power is available, and can be had. but only by the establishment of Power Boards. A number of questions were asked and answered, amd the following motion, moved by Mr Strack, seconded by Mr Amos, was carried unanimously:—“That this meeting of Taieri residents adopts the proposal that all the Taieri County should "be included m the Otago Electric Power Board district, and requests their representatives on the Taieri County Council to support the rescinding of a previous motion eliminating a greater portion of the county from the Power Board. That a deputation from the meeting consisting of Messrs Amos, Blair. Shennan, Reid, IV alk rr. Moore M’Caddic, M'Leod, Martin. Stevens, and Strack wait upon the council in support of the motion.” A hearty vote of thinks was passed to the city members for their visit and) the addresses they had given.
