(Received May 8, at 7.30 p.m.) The city editor of Tho Timoa comments that the outstanding feature of the dealings in gilt-edged stocks last week was the price of the 5 per cent, war loan at 99, being quoted at nearly 1 per cent, below recent issues. Messrs Dalgety and Co. report having received the folfowing cable from London, dated May B:—“Butter market steady but quiet; Danish, £9 Hw; Australian finest 'salted, £8 X4«' finest unsalted, £8 10a; New Zealand salted, £9 4s; Queensland salted, £8 12s; Queensland unsaltecl,. £8 Bs. Cheese: Slow; New Zealand colour, £4 6s; New Zealand white, £3 145.”: London Wool sales. Messrs Dalgety and Co. report having received the following cable from London, dated May 6:—“Wool sales continued very animated, with hardening tendency, except merino wools super. As compared with last sale’s closing rates, merino wools 10 per cent, to 15 per cent, higher, except merino wools super; crossbred wools, coarse, 15 per cent, to 20 per cent, higher. Homo trade and Continental buyers very active; American buyers are operating.” SkriNßY WOOL SALES. SYDNEY. May 8. (Received May 8, at 10.5 p.m.) The 18th series of wool Bales has commenced. (Received May 8, at 10.5_ p.m.) Following tho recent increase in the wholesale price of butter in Brisbane to 206 s 4d per cwt, in the hope of reaping the benefit on account of the shortage in Victoria and the impending shortage in New South Wales, the newspaper Argue states that there is a possibility <5 Queensland being cut out of tha Melbourne market, «s it appears that best New Zealand butter has been offered in Melbourne at a price equivalent to Is 9d landed in Melbourne. There is some little demand for good heavy lines, but discoloured and weathered samples are practically unsaleable. We quote: A Cartons, 2s 9d to 2a XOd per bushel, sacks extra. Undergrade oats are difficult to cell. We quote; A Cartons, 2s 9d to 2a 10d'; B Gartons, 2s 4d to 2a sd, ex truck, Dunedin, sacks extra. Wheat.—Millers are confining their purchases to good conditioned lines. I owl wheat is in over-supply. Potatoes. — Best Taieri tables, £4 10s to £4 15s, oacks in. , Chaff.—Prime, £4 15s; medium to good, ft 7s 6d to ft 12s 6d, sacks extra.

Poultry: Hens, 3s to 3s 6d per pair; cockerels, 4s to 6s per pair; ducka, 5s to 6s per pair; geese, 6a 6d per pair; turkeys—hens 9d, gobblers 10d. Pigs: Prime baconers, 7<l to 7id per lb; porkers, Bid per lb. Potatoes: Prime, £4 15s per ton; medium quality (over supply, difficult to deal with), £3 to £4 per ton. Onions: Canterbury, £8 per tab. We con supply petrol, motor lubricating oils and greases, lucerne and poultry meal, hulled oats, shell grit, Pareora meat meal, leg rings, toe punches, charcoal, wire netting, Star brand chicken food, and egg crates.
