BAND OF HOPE

• The monthly meeting of the North-East Valley United Band of Hope was held in the Institute on Tuesday, evening. In the absence of the president (the Bev. S. Mor-' ris), the Bev. B. E. Evans (vice-president) presided. . 1 . A programme of music and recitations was supplied by the combined churches, the following taking'part:—Misses Eileen and »May Turner (duet), Mies Benjamin and W. Roberts (solos), Agnes. Elliot, Lilias-Samson, Phyllis Hopkins, J. Roberts, and J. Bradshaw (recitations), L; and E. Elliot'(flute duet). Hr-Jackson Purdie gave a most-in-structive . address on “The Evils of - Strong Drink." The pledge ryas repeated ' by. the members, and in response to the invitation a large number of new members was enrolled. A most successful ■ meeting was brought to a close with, prayer and the Benediction. ■ .
