CAY NIGHT LIFE
MANY LONDON TRAGEDIES. EVILS OP FAKE CLUBS. LONDON, April 24. The heotio doings of London’s night life devotees were revealed at recent inquests and at “sly grog’’ prosecutions undertaken by the County Council in an attempt to minimise, the evils of flight clubs, as far as its powers permit. , Though' it is feared that the proprietors know all the loopholes in the existing laws, proceethngs-have been taken against, certain conductors on the ground that they are not licensed for “public music and dancing.”' The regulation is usually evaded by registering the haunts as ‘‘subscription clubs,” tne patrons merely buying' 'tickets at a neighbouring office. The inquest on Freda Kempton on March 7 disclosed what . the coroner termed a sordid story of the 'pursuit of gay distraetiops. : This - girl flitted from club to cjiib in the early hours, often, accompanied by a Chinaman, and priming herself .with drink and drugs until the reaction culminated in .a deliberate fatal overdose of cocaine.
