DUNEDIN IRISH SOCIETY

The monthly meeting of the Irish Society was held in the Overseas Club Room on Thursday night. During the evening Mr P. G. Wilson gave an interesting reading on the works of Anglo-Irish composers. The paper covered a wide range of both well known and almost unknown melodies and their origin, and proved both instructive and entertaining. The following contributed items: —Miss West, song, ‘The Dear Little Shamrock”; Miss Dixon, song, “Killarncy”; Mi - Emery, song, “Macushla”; Miss Gallagher. recitation, “Oh! the Shamrock”; Miss Kennedy, song, “Asthore” ; Miss Spillane, song, “She Is Far From the Land”; Master Richards, song, Toast to Erin”: Miss Wilson, dance, Irish iig; Mr F. Rodgers, song, “The Harp That Once.” Mr Murdoch made an efficient accompanist. An item bv the Irish choir, under the direction of Mr T. J. Anthony brought the evening to a close.
