(Received April 27, at 5.5 p.m.) -In consequence of the distress caused by the high taxation of foodstuffs many inembers of the House of Commons are inaugurating a campaign to reduce taxation. A prominent Labour member of the House of Commons indicates that his party will go further' and will fight for the total abolition of imposts on foodetuffs. notably tea and sugar duties. Lobbyists are of the opinion that the Government will not dare to reduce the income tax without simultaneously taking threepence off tea and a penny off sugar, which, with one shilling off the income tax, would cost £50,000,000. —A. and N.Z.'Cable.
