(Received April 23, at 5.5 p.m.) The fourth week .of the coal strike will begin on Saturday. The miners’ leaders claim that the strikers now number 680,000. So far the industries have not been seriously affected.—A. and N.Z. Cable. CHRISTCHURCH UNEMPLOYED * MAJORITY UNSKILLED WORKERS. (Pm Uniteti Pkrss Assooia^iow.* CHRISTCHURCH, April 22. The Labour Department's bureau has about 60 men on its books at the present time, and the Repatriation Department about the same number, though possibly some of the men are included in both lists. Most of the unemployed belong to the unskilled labour class. Some of the men are partially disabled ex-soldiers who want light, work, which is particularly scarce just now. A proportion of those out of work are Imperial ex-soldiers and recently-arrived immigrants. The freezing works are giving work to a number of semi-skilled men, but other industries cannot absorb any more of the unskilled labour now offering.
