HARRIERS.

Tlie SI. Hilda Harrier Club held it* opening run on Saturday from Wesley Hall, aud in spit© of the bad weather there was a good turnout. The- trail led over to Tomahawk, then to Highcliff road, and heme. The Cargill Road Methodist harriers held opening run from the schoolroom, as the ' guests of the Y.M.B.C. Despite tne inclement weather 14 members turned out to enjoy the keen air. The trail was taken over the back of Shiels’ quarry to Mornington and back clown to the Flat a.gain. After the run a social evening was held. About 25 members of the Dunedin Anglican harrieiu turned out for the opening run of the season from St. .Clair baths. The pack, under Captain Gale, assisted by Deputycaptain M'MHllan, set out round the cliffs and over towards Green Island Beach, where they turned back through Burnside and over the Main South read to Oaversham. From here they ran along to Forbury corner, and a brisk run home resulted in Ga]s, M’Kernan, Bibby, and Simpson showing up prominently at the head! of tho pack, in that order. Tho Pacific Club, in conjunction with the Caversham Club, held its opening run from the Bungalow Tearooms, St. Hilda. The paper was entrusted to Messrs W. H. B Hobbs (Pacific) and H. Allen (Caverahaml. The trail on leaving the tearoom led on to the beach, which the runners followed to Ij/awyer’s Head and Tomahawk Beach, then on to the hills overlooking the lagoon, and returning along the slopes of the hill on the Anderson’s Bay side of the lagoon, finishing with a. fast run home. A. M'Lachlan, C. H. M’Lean, M. Hill, and Leo Ashby were prominent, in the final dash. During the evening .the Pacific Club members took the opportunity of bidding farewell to Mr W. Stark, who has been for several years one of the club officials. Tho president (Mr C. W. Clark) asked Mr Stark to accept a wristlet watch suitably inscribed as a token of appreciation of his services. Mr T. K. Sidoy and Mr A. W. Mercer also referred to the good work performed by Mr Stark, not only in the Pacific Club, but for amateur athletics in this city. Mr Stark, in a neat speech, thanked the members for their gift. The St. Patrick’s harriers held their opening run on Saturdav with a full muster. The paper waa distributed by M’Allen and Walker, who laid a very fine trail. The pack. Hinder the whistle of Captain Moms, followed on the trail, which led along Victoria road to Tomahawk, where they were met by the Pacific and Caversham harriers. The run then continued on cross-country to the soldiers’ memorial on the high road, where flic trail led homewards along the Anderson’s Bay road to Tahuna. Here a brisk run home ensued, in which the young members of the club were prominent.
