DRAUGHTS.

HANDICAP TOURNEY CONCLUDED. The handicap .draughts tourney, conducted by the Now Zealand' Draughts Association, was concluded last night, when a number of spectators witnessed the piny. At the conclusion of tho contest Mr D. Trninor (local chairman) congratulated Messrs Boreham, Lucas, Brown, and Rea on the good, positions they had attained. Mr J. A. Boreham won his last three games, which brought him to a total of 274 points, which is a very creditable performance considering the high standard of play. Mr J. A. Lucas, tho runner-up. also did well, making 27 points. Mr G. A. Brown (Christchurch) scored 244 points, anfi his game against Lucas was exceedingly well played. This game ended in a draw, and is considered tho .hardest fought game of the tournament, and reflects great credit on Mr Brown in securing a draw against Mr Lucas, who is a New Zealand ex-champion. Mr W. Carswell, tho Now Zealand bowling ex-ohampion, is also no mean exponent of the “dambrod.” and made a total of 194 points. The standard of play in the majority of- the games was very high, and Messrs Boreham, Lucas, Brown, and Rea qualified for the Australasian championship, which will be commenced this morning. This game will be played under the “two-life knock-out” conditions. It is exnected that the contest will he concluded early next week, when a smoke social will be held to celebrate the distribution' of prizes. The following shows the position of the competitors at the conclusion of the _ games for tho New Zenlaml Handicap, without the sealed handicap points, which will be announced later:
