THE EASTER TOURNAMENT. TWO CONCLUDING MATCHES. ■ Tlie two concluding matches in the Easter Lawn Tennis tournament were played yesterday on the Moana courts under perfect weather conditions. These were the final of the Mixed Championship Doubles, between S. N. Brown and Miss M’Laren and S. G. M’Dougall and Miss A. Welsh, and the final of the Mixed Handicap Doubles, between I'. J. Taylor (Christchurch) and Miss E. Campbell and H. K. Sumpter (Oamaru) and Miss M’Laren. The championship event proved to bo a sterling exhibition, in which much attractive tennis was witnessed. Brown and his partner began, well, and led 2—o, but M’Dougall, by effective serving, aided u.y splendid lobbing on the part of Miss Welsh, evened matters at 2 all and 3 all. and finally took the lead at 4 —3. Miss M’Laren led 40—15 on her next service, but M’Dougall made if deuce before losing the game. The .score advanced evenly to 6 all, when M’Dougall lost his' own service, and Brown won the next, game from 40—15 and the set. In the second set M’Dougall and his partner did not combine quite so well, and they failed to get a fame, the championship going to Brown hd Miss M’Laren in straight sets. The final of the Handicap Mixed Doubles was responsible for- one of those curious reversals in, scoring which are not infrequently experienced in lawn tennis. Taylor and Miss Campbell took the first and third games, 'the second and fourth going to Sumpter and Miss M’Laren. Sumpter and his partner then ran the score to 5—2, Miss Campbell falling rather heavily in the seventh game, when the-acore was advantage in. When she returned to the court she and her partner took the seven games on end and led B—s.8 —5. Sumpter temporarily improved matters by taking the next game, but Miss Campbell won her last service from o—3o0 —30 and took the match at 9—6. The following are the results: — MIXED CHAMPIONSHIP DOUBLES. Best of 17 games; final best of 3 sets. Holders: G. Clark and Miss Shaw. Final. S. N. Brown and Miss J. M’Laren beat -S. G. M’Dougall and Miss A. Welsh B—6, o— o. Mixed Championship Doubles. The following are the holders of the .Mixed Championship Doubles of Otago, an event which has been played at irregular intervals:— 1911—Ollivier and Miss Miles • 1912—Hamilton and Miss Campbell 1921—G. Clark and Miss Shaw 1922—5. N. Brown and Miss M’Laren. MIXED HANDICAP DOUBLES. Best of 17 games. Final. L. J. Taylor and Miss F. Campbell (owe 40) beat H. K. Sumpter and Miss J. M’Laren (owe - ; 30 3-6) 9 —6.
