STRADIVARIUS VIOLINS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —In this morning's issue you had nn interesting note to the effect that a resident of Invercargill had a violin labelled “Antonins Stradivarius_ Cremonens's faciebit anno 1736." which is the usual s?gn manual of that greatest of the Cremona violin makers, died in' 1737 at the ago of 93, so it is just possible that the violin in question is by the hand of the master himself. The period of his host violins was from 1700 to 1725. After the latter date a good many fiddles, though signed with his- name, were mostly the work of his pupils. Still, there are a certain number in existence known to be his own work. It is only right that ! should disclaim any knowledge about violins themselves. —I am, etc., H. 0. Fenton. Anderson’s Bay March 24.
