ATTACKED BY WOLVES

CHILDREN CARRIED OFF. FIGHT BETWEEN VILLAGERS AND INVADERS. Frees Association— Bj Telegr ap h — Copyright LONDON, March 22. A message from Bucharest says:—“ Mad with hunger alter pitiless snowstorms, a pack of wolves entered the village of Pietrosin at nightfall, and carried off fire small children, whom they tore ravenously to pieces before their parents’ eyes. Responding to the frantic alarm raised by the horror-stricken mothers, the entire village turned out, armed with sticks, and chased the invaders. They found the pack reinforced by a large number of famished wolves. The animals turned on the villagers, who, being without firearms, were compelled to fight for their lives. The fierce struggle lasted an hour. Only one wolf was killed, but six villagers were so badly tom by the animals’ fangs that they died on the spot. Thirty-eight others were badly bitten.
