SCOTTISH HOME RULE
MR ANDREW FISHER’S ADVOCACY. Frees Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, March 23. (Received March 24, at 8.30 p.m.) Mr Andrew Fisher, speaking at a Scottish Home Rule meeting in Glasgow, said that Scottish interests were not served by the Imperial Parliament. Scotland’s entry into the union did not mean that she would be content to live for ever under a predominant partner. The meeting passed a resolution that Irish Home Rule necessitated Scottish Home Rule immediately. Messrs Duncan Graham and Neil M'Lsan, members of the House of Commons, supported the resolution. Mr Robert Munro, Secretary for Scotland, wrote stating that while he sincerely with Scottish Home Rule -he thought it inappropriate that a member of the Government should participate in the meeting.— A. and N.Z. Cable. [A London cable message published yesterday stated:—A most dramatic case has arisen at Norwich in connection with a widespread newspaper insurance scheme which was initiated as a New Year advertising dodge. The insurances include sickness, fire, street, railway, and motoring accidents, the papers competing in generosity and promptitude in regard to payment of claims. A fire recently broke out in the house of Frederick George, a greengrocer, in which his wife, son, and daughter wore burned to death. George escaped. The jury at the inquest added a rider that George should have made a greater attempt to save his family. The coroner has since again referred to the case. He stated; “George insured jus wife and family in the newspaper scheme Tor £250. which was promptly paid. He must have immediately written to the newspaper. If I had known this at the time of the inquest the verdict might have been different. Under the circumstances it looks like a serious case against George. I have communicated with the police.”]
