During the past session a number of members of Parliament urged upon the Government the necessity for the appointment of an additional judge to the Supreme Court Bench, as the ■work, it was stated, was increasing to such an extent as to make it difficult to keep up with. The Minister of Justice promised to convey the representations to the Attorney-general (Sir Francis Bell). In reply to a question (says the New Zealand Times), Sir Francis Bell said no action had yet been taken, and the office of Attorney-general had now been taken over by the Hon. E. P. Lee. Sir Francis Bell did not express any opinion as to the probability of an additional judge being appointed, but it is not considered likely that any action will be taken to strengthen the bench until the financial position improves.
