NEWSPAPER INSURANCE SCHEME.
A DRAMATIC SEQUEL. Preas Association—By Telegraph—Copyright ‘ LONDON, March 21. (Received March 22, at 9.55 p.m.) A most dramatic case has arisen at Norwich in connection with a widespread newspaper insurance'scheme which was initiated as a New Year advertising dodge. The insurances include sickness, fire, street, railway, and motoring accidents, the papers competing in generosity and promptitude in regard to payment of claims. A fire recently broke out in the house of Frederick George, a greengrocer, in which his wife, son, and daughter were burned to death. .George escaped. The jury at the inquest added a rider that George should have made a greater attempt to save his family. The coroner has since, again referred to the case. He stated: “George insured his wife and family !n the newspaper scheme for £250, which was promptly paid. He must have imme diately written to the newspaner. If I had known this at the time of the inquest the verdict might have been different. Under the circumstances it looks like a serious case against George. I have communicated with the police.”—A. and N.Z. Cable.
