Some experiments whereby the lives of butterflies have been prolonged for five or six times the normal period have been carried out in Switzerland by M. Uonis Destauebes. He has made the discovery that by keeping them on alternate days in temperatures either just above freezing point of about blood heat, certain butterflies live from 30 to 35 days. In the ordinary way they would live only six or seven days. During'this period they lay two and a half times (he normal number of eggs.
