STOREMEN PACKERS’ AWARD

The Arbitration Court has filed its award an the wholesale merchant, storemen and packers’ dispute, which was dealt with at -the recent sittings in ' Ehmedin. The only clauses left over from the Conciliation Council were those relating to hours, wages, _ and holidays, on which <the court’s decision is as follows: — Hours. —The hours of work are fixed at 44 a week. In • the case of employers whose custom it has been to employ their general hands in excess of 44 hours, the storemen and packers may he required to observe similar hours, provided that in no case shall they exceed. 48. Overtime is to be paid at time and a-half for the first three hours and double time thereafter Wages.—The following rates of wages have been fixed;—Storemen and packers over 21 years of age and in charge of two or more men, other than casuals, £4 6s; others, £3 15s; under 17, £1 2s fid; age 17-18, £1 7s fid; age 18-19, £1 17s fid; age 19-20, £2 7s fid; age 20-21, £3 17s fid. Junior rates (17-21) are increased by a bonus of 3s fid, and senior rates by 10s. Each firm is allowed one junior, but the proportion must not exceed one' to three or fraction thereof. Holidays.—Holidays to be observed are Few Year’s Day and the day following, flood Friday, Easter Monday, Anzac a Day, Labour Dav. Sovereign’s. birthday, Christmas Day, and Boxing Day. Work done on Sundays, Christmas Day. Good Friday, or Anzac Day is to he paid for at double rates, and work on other holidays at the rate of time and a-half. Employees with 12 months’ continuous service are to be allowed one week’s annual holidlay on full pay at a time to be determined by the employer. In the case of employers who are bound by the warehousemen’s award, the following holidays are to be observed:—Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and the intervening ■ days up to and including January 2, Good Friday, Easter Saturday, Easter Monday, Labour Day, and Sovereign’s birthday.
