Mr Lloyd George’s advisers at the Genoa Conference, which is to meet on March 8, will be Sir Robert Horne (Chancellor of the Exchequer) ’ and Mr B. P. Blackett (a Treasury official). The personnel of the conference will probably comprise 1000 delegates. It will probably be the biggest international gathering since the Peace Conference. ROME, January 17. Twenty-four European nations have been invited to Genoa, also representatives of the United States, Japan, and the British dominions; but Turkey has not been invited.—A. *and N.Z. Cable. AMERICA INVITED. REPLY NOT YET READY. WASHINGTON, January 18. (Received Jan. 18, at 0.50 p.m.) The United States Government has received the Italian Government’s invitation * to the Genoa Conference. No decision has yet been reached, and it will probably he several days before a reply la transmitted.—A. and N.Z. Cable. THE RUSSIAN CLAIMS. LARGE ORDER OF REFERENCE. COPENHAGEN, January 17. According to the Soviet newspapers, the Bolshevist authorities estimate the Russian debt at about 18 milliards of gold roubles. The Soviet will not recognise this debt at the International Conference unless it is permitted to submit a counterclaim for about 12 milliards of roubles. Tho Soviet desires to discuss at Genoa: 1. The payment of the Russian debt. 2. Compensation for losses occasioned by the intervention of foreign Powers. 3. A return of the merchantmen seised by Generals Deniken, Yudenitch, and Wrangel. 4. A settlement of the Eastern Siberian question. 5. The economic restoration of Russia and her economic relationship to foreign countries.—A. and N.Z. Cable. BRITISH DOMINIONS. QUESTION OF REPRESENTATION. LONDON, January 17. It is doubtful whether the Brjtish dominions will be represented at the Genoa Conference. It is understood that they have been formally sounded, and the issue of the invitations depends to some extent on the character of their replies.—Reuter.
