Two hundred and twenty-one vessels, with 770,000 tons of cargo, passed through the Panama Canal in September. Tin’s was 6 per rent, less than the August total, but more than in the other months since April. A man of 85, while on his way to catch the train which was wrecked in the Batignolles tunnel, Paris, on October 5. lost his memory, and was taken care of by the notice until bis friends began inquiring for him. Although the number of unemployed in Italy rose on Feptember 1 to 463.108, there is no serious apprehension for tho winter, as Government works are expected to absorb a jjreat deal of labour.
