“THE LILAC DOMINO."
The first introduction of “Hie lilac ’ Domino,” will be given at His Majesty’s* Theatre under the direction of • Messrs J. C. Williamson, Ltd. on the-/27th instant. Coming, Irom a iiighly successful seasoned Australia, and witti a London reputation ■ behind it, "The Lilac Domino” has every prospect of being enthusiastically welcomed by audiences, as it has established itself firmly in this hearts of music lovess in the North Island. It is described as a plot in melody—a comedy in which music has a larger share than is usually *the ca.se with modern musical comedies. Dancing has its own particular place in the scheme of things. while the opportunity for dressing and lighting. has not been forgotteif. The Domino (Miss Rene Maxwell) is a sweet little maid frpm _ school, whose desire to be mischievous is irresistible. She strays into a gay party, remains long enough to make a penurious youth fall in love, and is apparently going the right way to bestow her fortune upon him and his two bankrupt friends, when their vile plot is revealed to her. Miss Maxwell, to whom is attributed a fine rich, soprano voice, has plenty of scope in the production to display charm and personality. The cast is practically a new one to New Zealand, but it took them only one night to endear themselves into the good graces of the Auckland theatre-goers, where they established themselves firm favourites. The second production, “Firefly,” comes with tlie reputation of being the best comic opera staged in Australia for the last 10 years.
