The Evening Standard understands that Mr Lloyd George has decided, after conversations with Mr Chamberlain, Lord Birkenhead, and other Ministers, against an election in February. Nothing has been decided as to when an appeal to the country will be made, but the Prime Minister is continuing conversations with ministers. The Cabinet will meet shortly. —A. and N.Z. Cable. BLIZZARDS IN BRITAIN. CONDITIONS INTENSELY SEVERE. ' LONDON, January 16. Great Britain is swept with snowstorms and heavy blizzards. In Scotland there are Snowdrifts 20ft deeo. Communication with many towns and villages is blocked. The blizzard swept England on Saturday and Sunday. It was particularly severe in the Midlands and in the north. It was the worst known in the Peak district for 20 years. The railway traffic was interrupted by heavy drifts, and the Leicestershire, Yorkshire, and West Scotland roads are impassable.— A. and N.Z. Cable. FIRE IN SHIPPING STORES. PARIS, January 16. The Oonmognie Trans-Atlantique stores at Bordeaux, containing large quantities of rubber and sulphur, were destroyed bv fire. The damage is estimated at 3,000,000 francs.—A. and, N.Z. Cable. EX-RUSSIAN MINISTER’S SUICIDE. ROME, January 17. Jan. 17, at 8.5 p.m.) M. Fedocesco, formerly Russian Minister of the Netherlands, who fled hither after the revolution, committed suicide in poverty.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
